Hockey Canada has shifted its focus to improving hockey skills among youngsters. The young kids are taught how to play hockey on ice surfaces. Consequently, they are expected to learn how to use sticks, skates, and punks.

Increase engagement

The major reason why Hockey Canada introduced this program is that it wanted to increase enjoyment, participation, and engagement in the game, especially for entry-level players. Although the program received some opposition from adults, its results are positive within Canada. For many years the hockey team engaged with the minor-hockey constituent in various provinces and it collected materials and data significant for ensuring that the shrunken-ice programs succeed.

The person coaching the youngsters begins by tossing a puck on the ice and makes the young skaters go for it. The coach then teaches them how to play to win. This puts the kids out there to explore and participate in an activity that is new to them. Once the kids have obtained a certain level of skill and enjoyment, they can take it forward as they continue with the training.

Hockey Competition for Youngsters

In addition, Hockey Canada organizes competitions for youngsters of ages between 16 and 21. From these competitions, the best players are picked to join the national team. The competitions help the youngsters obtain early experience which will enable them to deal with future challenges. They also help the youngsters learn how to work as a team and develop their self-confidence.

The initiation by Hockey Canada is a wise decision because it will help the youngsters obtain the fundamental skills important for playing hockey on ice surfaces. It will also introduce them to the concept of fair play and cooperation. The kids will apply the skills when they get an opportunity to join the national team, thus improving its performance.
